Toastie fillings?
I just read @Eveie_Wonder's post about having a cheese & ham toastie and Mmmmm I haven't had a toasted sandwich in agessss!
I don't like meat in mine (tbh I don't really eat much meat at all) and ALWAYS go for cheese and ketchup! I love how the ketchup gets a bit burnt π lol
I want to try some other toasties soooo what do you have in yours?! How can I fancy it up a bit??

Funny enough I usually have the ham and cheese ones from Greggs (my mom gets them from the outlet by my house). I went to Icelands yesterday and bought the frozen Cathedral City one to try and it was really nice. My preferred filling is meat with cheese like pepperoni, salami or ham. Nothing too fancy lol @Biblioklept

Cheese & Branston pickle.
Cheese & tomato.
Cheese & leftover cranberry sauce from Christmas.
Oops, that's a lot of cheese!
I like banana too (not with cheese).
When I'm trying to reduce the amount of bread I eat I use a tortilla wrap instead of bread. ('toasted' in the airfryer with a little olive oil on the outside).

Ooh I haven't had a toastie in years but now I really want one! You need one of those toastie makers that seals the edges, but I used to go for baked beans and cheese. And always burn my mouth on the first bite!
I would also make a pizza flavour one with some tomato and mozarella and anything else you'd normally put on a pizza. Pesto and cheese would be good too if you like that.

sound delish @Rosie_Scope Has anyone tried Crimpits? You just fill half of a wrap with your favourite things fold to seal it. Then put in air fryer or oven π

Just cheddar

Nothing better than a bit of cheese and ham for me. I'm curious about a cheese and pickle toastie though. I might give that a go soon!
We have one of those makers that seal the edges, @Rosie_Scope, but it takes longer to clean it than it does to make it. Almost enough to put me off making them. Almost!
Haven't tried a crimpit myself @Eveie_Wonder! Do they need like a bag or pouch to go in the air fryer?

Many years ago I had a cheese, ham and pineapple toasted sandwich, like a Hawaiian pizza, which was also my favourite pizza topping at the time. π
Can't manage melted cheese nowadays though, so I now have toasted bread with unmelted cheese added afterwards. Never sure whether that still counts a toasted cheese sandwich or not. π

I ordered a unmelted cheese with toasted bread in Spain @OverlyAnxiousThe description on the meu was a cheese toast sandwich, which was exactly what it was π
@Adrian_Scope the Crimpet seals the edges so it's like a calzone and just goes on the air fryer as is π

I haven't tried a crimpet before either but you have sold me on it being like a calzone @Eveie_Wonder!! Sounds deliciousπWhere do you buy them from please?
Cheese and pickle toastie is my favourite @Delphi! I've never thought about putting banana in a toastie before but I'm intrigued, do you put anything else in there like peanut butter?0 -
I got mine as a gift @Mary_Scope I think you can get them from Amazon or if you google Crimpet the main site comes up.
My daughter made a banana and chocolate flied one but instead of a wrap she used the ready made pastry sheets π
@Adrian_Scope I very rarely use my toastie maker for the same reason. It takes ages to clean and there's always some gink in the hinges.

@OverlyAnxious Cheese put on toast after still counts! Not only that, it's quicker and much less messy. I think it is nicer that the melted version when the weather is warm.

@Eveie_Wonder Thank you. You saved me looking up what a crimpit was.

@Mary_Scope I haven't done it with peanut butter & banana but if you like the combo it could be good. I like peanut butter & banana on rice cakes. Used to live where you could grind your own peanut butter in the supermarket. Only ingredient was peanuts. Now I only buy peanut butter with no other ingredients, it really doesn't need anything else.

@Delphi glad to help ποΈand I agree with you about unmelted cheese on toast

@Amberpearl A jar of Branston is too big for me to get through so I sort of feel obliged not to waste it. BUT now you've said just cheese it exactly what I fancy for lunch today. Just cheddar on toast for my late lunch.
How does it get this late? I only did a load of laundry and now it is afternoon! Someone needs to invent a machine that hangs the laundry on an airer.

I would definitely buy one of those π

Thank you @Eveie_Wonder, oo that banana and chocolate one sounds absolutely delicious! I wonder if you could do savoury ones as well with the ready made pasty sheets, you've got me thinking of ideas!!
@Delphi Peanut butter and banana on rice cakes sounds tasty! Being able to grind your own peanut sounds very fun, I bet that's very satisfying to watch too

I'm a simple girl and just love lots of cheese, especially cheddar and halloumi. I have a Crimpet too @Eveie_Wonder! Ours is square for warburtons thins.
I think everyone goes through a toastie maker stage. It's the most amazing thing in the world and you use it loads, but then one day it goes into a cupboard never to see the light of day again! I used to have one that looked like a cow π

yes @Mary_Scope it was soo0 nice. If you can think it, the sky is the limit βοΈ

so true @Rachel_Scope I have so many gadgets that once they are put in the cupboard they never see the light of day but I couldn't imagine my life without them at the time π
