Criticisms
I saw this post by a podcaster sharing some stuff about his RSD and I won't replicate it all here because it's not mine to share, but one bit hit me quite hard and I spent a lot of time today looking into it.
Did you know people with ADHD are thought to receive around 20,000+ more criticisms in their early years compared to other children?!
In fact kids with ADHD are more likely to face actual criticism, negative feedback and peer rejection!!
Repeated negative is thought to train the brain to anticipate criticism, so even mild comments, perceived snubs or jokes feel SO intense and painful.
Imagine growing up and every time you do something that feels normal to you you're met with comments like:
"You're embarrassing yourself"
"Why are you being lazy?"
"Stop biting your nails!"
"Why are you crying?!"
"Stop being dramatic"
"You've let me down!"
"You're too sensitive"
"You're too much!"
"You're really rude"
"Stop being weird!"
"Stop fidgeting"
"Calm down"
"Be normal!"

I can see this @Biblioklept, especially before it was widely recognised. The damage done to young people who have experienced this is heartbreaking and is bound to impact them their whole life. I just hope that things are starting to change as ADHD and other diagnoses are being more discussed, acknowledged and generally people are being better educated.
