Adult pads
Hi everyone
I could really do with advice. I care for a family member who is double incontinent bit the local continence people will only allow 4 pads a day. Years ago it was 3 but they grudgingly increased it. I can't leave him in soiled pads, his skin burns etc. He is getting through 6 or 7 a day. We are having to self fund but it really feels unfair. Does anyone know how I could get the number increased? I rang the service and they just kept repeating '4 is the maximum'. Thanks everyone

That's awful @Kev1874, I'm so sorry to hear your family member isn't getting what they need.
I'm afraid I don't have much experience of this area myself, so I hope one of our members might be able to offer some further advice. But having done a little research it sounds like many councils have a limited amount of free pads they allocate to patients. Is it the continence clinic that have refused any further pads? Has your family member had a recent assessment of their needs?
You could potentially try raising this with your local councillor or MP to see if they can help in any way, but if it's an NHS issue it may be out of their control.
Is your family member on any benefits like PIP that can help to pay for the top up pads? It doesn't feel very fair to self fund as you say, but it sounds like these limits are unfortunately quite common.
Hope you can find a way forward soon.

Social Services used to supply me free however that ceased 2/3 years ago presumably as a result of budget cuts. Age Co deliver good quality pads and the cost per pack of 10 works out about £1-£1.50p per pad which in your case would i'm sure be prohibitively expensive @Kev1874 .

the NHS are look8ing at supplying 3 pads free and you have to buy the 4 pad a day my doughter is on 4 so we are looking at paying for the short fall +they are going to deliver every 4 mounths at a time which will have storage problems to has they are saving money has the budgit is set at 1.5 mil a year not changed in 5 years last year ir cost them 2.3 mil a over spend off £700,000 .00 .
