If you're unemployed due to disability - What would be your perfect job?
Personally I'd love to work in retail, as a Checkout Assistant in a fairly busy Supermarket, but because evenings and weekends are pretty much mandatory in retail, and for various reasons I can't, I keep getting rejected for work.
Anyway, what do you wanna do?

That's the only negative with these type of jobs unfortunately but some are rota'd so you're not working every weekend. Would that be do-able for you or do you have obligations every weekend? Have you tried our support to work team? They have specific partners they work with so there might be something in that arena or similar that supports your need to have weekends free - Support to Work | Disability charity Scope UK.

Due to having support workers and living in supported residential care, that's the reason I can't do evenings or weekends.
Hence I keep getting rejected whenever I apply for anything in retail.
There's also the issue that the ONLY frontline retail experience I have is working in Charity shops, again because of the hours.

That must be really frustrating. I'm surprised retail isn't supporting people who need different hours in this day and age. Is there anything else you'd like to do @SheffieldMan1976?

Yeah computer based Office work, but again, most of it's 40 hours a week which I can't do.
I particularly want to work in the games industry.

I recommend trying Tesco. They are very disability positive and have been amazing with me. I've been off for 6 months and I've had constant support from them to the point that I'm doing a phased return to work and I can pick how many hours, what day and time for 8 weeks before they like to see you return to your contracted hours.

I have been unemployed for almost 6 years but have been volunteering at my local organisation.
I wiah to work with policy development that promotes inclusion and equity, particularly for disabled people.
