Universal Credit Claim Review When You’re A Gambler

I’m currently going through a Universal Credit Claim Review and I have to upload Three months bank statements. My question is, if I have had recent winnings from the National lottery . Deposits of £800.00 in November 2025; £800.00 in December 2025 and again on 4th February 2026. But each time I used the full amount of winnings into my account to pay off a personal loan. Should I have reported the winnings to universal credit?
and when they see the gambling winnings on my bank statements what action will universal take against me in regards to my current claim review? Thanks

Repayment of debt is generally not considered deprevation of capital.

If on the last day of your Assessment Period you had over £6k total capital, then this potentially should have been reported.

    Hi Kimi87,

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if I should have Declared/Reported to Universal Credit that I won the amount of money that I won and that the money was deposited into my bank account by The National Lottery? Thanks

UC aren't interested unless your total capital went over £6k at the end of an AP.

Thanks, no it didn’t go over £6k. Just a little over £2k. Thanks for replying and setting my mind a little at rest.

I'm. Also going through the review

Uploaded 4 months bank statements and council tax letter 10 days ago

    Heard nothing

I've had no such luck on the lottery

    Hi Amberpearl

They’ve only asked me for 3 months bank statements, which seems a bit odd as I’ve read a few times that they ask people for 4 months bank statements.

Have you checked your online Universal Credit Journal to see if they’ve replied to you since you sent them your bank statements etc?

I don't know how this translates into DWP's interpretation, but gambling winnings are not considered income in the UK for tax purposes when it comes to reporting to HMRC

The only exception would be if you're considered to be doing it as a profession (i.e. a professional card player)

(r.e. reporting the income element of it)
