Hi poppy hope your well, I just found your reply to this post and in similar situation, I get uc lcwra, I have full years of nic from being a carer, I am going to loose my uc as will be over £16000 after I inherit in about 5 weeks , can't work with ptsd, I read new style esa can be claimed with uc, but it's just deducted as income, you mention if you claim new style uc when still in the lcwra group you do not need to go threw another assessment, does this also mean you do not have to supply sick notes, hence I should apply niw, thank you in advance

@poppy123456 sadly hasn't been around for quite some time @Jon7777777
With New Style ESA ni credits do count towards but I THINK you have to have worked at least some of the qualifying years too, but I don't know 100%. If you apply, all they can say is no!
I started a New Style ESA claim after claiming UC and LCWRA for a while, and did not have to be reassessed or anything as my LCWRA status carried across to NS ESA, I did get lots of letters while they were sorting it telling me I'd have to be assessed etc until they figured it all out, I think they're sent automatically

Yes, as above you need to have worked within the last two tax years. If you haven't done that then you aren't entitled to New Style ESA.
However…you can still apply for it in order to keep getting NI credits when no longer claiming UC or Carers Allowance. So yes you should still apply, but no you won't receive any payments.
