Dog hates going out in the dark

my little maltese is 6 in March this year,she loves being out during the day,but as soon as it's dark at night she refuses point blank to go for a walk, she will walk so far, then stop still, even when I use a torch, so any time after 9.30pm is a no go, so she will come back into the yard to do her night buisness, anyone else experience their dogs not liking being out in the dark?

Hi @auldyin65 My dog was not too bad in the dark as long as it was not pitch black. He hated the rain though.

They all have their own little characters.

That's my cats name! Well her full name is Duchess Fuzzyface but that's a bit of a mouthful. I hope the informations useful and hopefully other members can speak about their own experiences.

She hates the rain, loves snow, and the stream at the park, won't wear rain coat, bought her 3 different equafleeces, put them on her and she stands like a statue, refusing to move till I take it off, and the dirty looks she gives are something else, 😂

I see a lot of dogs go past my window and quite a few of them are in coats or even jumpers. I can't say I've had a dog that's happy to wear anything either @Chris75_!

I have a 12 year old bichon and it is getting increasingly harder to get him outside in the garden to do his business if its dark outside!

I know his eye sight is deteriorating so I wonder if that is something to do with it and he may be frightened, how is your dogs eyesight?

Mine doesn't like walking in the dark, quite happy in her bag though. She also isn't keen on being out in rain (nor am I), but will happily splosh through a huge puddle that covers the path or running into the sea. Some animals just have their quirks. Oh & she has a fur collared raincoat & doesn't mind that at all, in fact, if I go anywhere near it, then she's up on my chair waiting for it to be put on. 😁 Jumpers, she's out of in minutes!
