Radio
I haven't really listened to a radio for 6 years ish when I had to give my job up as a driver, so I bought one today mainly for when im on the treadmill in my bedroom.
I plugged it in at 12pm and tuned my fave station in that I always listened to (greatest hits 60s 70s 80s music) and haven't switched it off since.
I'd forgotten how much I used to enjoy it!

I like to listen to planet rock in a morning

Great apart from the constant adverts.
Ken Bruce is still good, but I like Alex Lester in the wee small hours. I listened to him for years whilst driving through the night.

I missed Ken Bruce & his voice, it was only when the guy was doing my wetroom & had his radio on that I realised he had moved to Greatest Hits, so I now listen to his show. The rest of the time, if I want some noise, I put on 70s or 80s. I don't enjoy music as much as I used to, as I always sang along & wasn't that bad, now with dysphonia, my voice could be low, high, rough or nowt at all, none of it sounds good! ๐คฃ

Mr Bruce was ejected, the same as Alex Lester. Earning big bucks now on commercial radio, Ken is reported to be on ยฃ500K pa!

I listen to local radio more now, not so many adverts. But listening to radio gets people through the day and maybe it helps lonely people too. Hate what the BBC have done to their local radion as of late, by joining one station to all the local ones in the afternoon.
But all in all, you don't have to keep looking at the radio and it lets you get things done while listening.

I listen to the radio for most of the day myself, probably averaging around 8 hours a day.
Can't stand a lot of chat or adverts though, so have to use different stations at different times of the day. Sadly still missing a lot of music I used to like, there isn't any station that plays a wide enough variety and I can't be dealing with the hassle of changing CD's or making playlists nowadays.
On the subject of Ken Bruce, I like the Popmaster TV show he does. Didn't realise he was still on the radio as well.

He joined Simon Mayo on the dark side! Goodness knows why he can't retire though, there must be more reason than just money by now, aged 75?

He probably enjoys the job and would be bored s**tless sat at home doing nowt.

Crikey, he's on a good thing then @Chris75_, nice if you can get it! Him not retiring yet is probably an ego thing & also, he really enjoys it. Look at some of the singers & groups, so old they'll be going onto the stage with walking frames soon, as their egos need the massaging.

Alex Lester was and is a good laugh in the early hours, but he doesn't have the same freedom on GHR than the decades he was on BBC Radio 2, what with all the adverts.
You used to see 'SCOF' written (a finger on the grime) on the back of trailers, up and down the UK. Any fellow listener to 'The Dark Lord' could thus be identified! SCOF stood for Swirling Cesspool Of Filth.
I don't think it actually meant anything at all. He just had these particular, long running themes, of which that was one of many. He had/has a loyal army of night trunkers and security guards etc.

I miss Steve Wright in the afternoon. Ask Elvis was the funniest thing ever. We lost a brilliant man in 2024.

I would agree with you, but after decades earning 6 figures, I tend to think it was your initial thought about his vanity
At least Paul Gambaccini only does a weekly show.
Simon Mayo is another who won't retire it seems.

I used to listen to Steve Wright, but I fell out of love with his show in the end.
I do remember him having Rihanna on in 2007. Umbrella was just out.

Radio 6 - no adverts just great music ๐

I've never heard of radio 6, what kind of great music does it play?

Annie Nightingale practically worked up until she died, I think she was about 80 when she finished, hers was weekly though. Did like her.
I liked Steve Wright when it was 'Steve Wright in the Afternoon', I didn't care for him much on Radio 2 though. I must have grown up! ๐
Enjoyed Simon Bates show too, with 'Our Tune' we'd all be around the radio. ๐
Going back a bit, loved Jimmy Young's show, with 'What's the Recipe Today, Jim?' With Tony De Angelis as well. I used to go out with dad when he had visits to do & I was on school holidays. It was listening to it in the car that I found out that herring roe, which we all loved, wasn't the eggs but the sperm. I was yucking like anything, but it didn't put me off, my sister wasn't so keen when I went home & told her. ๐คฃ She eats it now though, when you can find it. He had some recipe books & we still make 3 recipes from them. In fact, had one last week, kidney special.

Indie rock in the main and never CC so my radio goes on at 4pm. He replaced Shaun Keaveny who was probably my favourite ever DJ.
My favourite presenter now is Guy Garvey on Sundays at 1pm. Glad you tried it, Ross.
