UC review and bank statements

Hi

We are currently going through a UC review. They phoned my wife today and said we need to provide all our bank statements from 2023 to now.

The issue is we had an inheritance back in 2023/24 - we used the money to buy an house because at the time we were in housing association, a car and house improvements. (it needed a lot of work done). We didn't think to declare the inheritance and werent aware we had to but found out since that we should have. What will happen to us? We are both really worried.

    The worse thing that will happen is an overpayment amount will be given that you will be expected to repay, on top of a small £50 fine.

    Thank you for your reply. My wife is really scared and think we will go to prison.
