Welcome @PAIN247365. I'm so sorry. It's awful seeing someone you care about in pain. Is this something that the Doctors have stopped or they've decided themselves?

Hi @PAIN247365 - I'm so sorry for what you are going through Neil with your absolute concern about her.

No-one should go off morphine cold turkey. It should indeed be a very controlled way of coming off it very slowly.

I speak as someone who came off fentanyl patches (morphine), which I'd been on for several years, incredibly slowly. I decided to do this myself (tho it should always be done with a Dr's guidance) because of adverse effects.

Please don't ever apologise; you are obviously concerned, & it's affecting you both because you care.

I had been some time later rather surprised after coming off morphine that my pain levels hadn't increased…. I was pretty much the same.

Pain is a very difficult thing, & meds like morphine help initially, but not with long term or chronic pain. She hasn't been helped in the best way, but there are things that can help.

It might sound odd, but looking at things in a different way may help. We're all individuals, & what may help one may not help another, & unfortunately it can take time to work out what's best for each person. It has been found that often it's a combination of things that better helps, so it can be a bit of 'trial & error.'

    Please see:

Personally I've found that diaphragmatic breathing always helps (the deep breathing bit), as it's known to reduce pain, which is my mainstay, but also anything that distracts me from pain too.

Hoping some of this helps, & we're always here to support you too. One of the most difficult things is to see someone in pain, & feel you don't know how you can help them.
