Digital ID

Some petitions lobbying the government don’t get noticed, especially if they never reach the 100,000 signature threshold needed to be considered for a parliamentary debate.
But it’s not right to say petitions “never get anywhere.” The Digital ID petition reached almost 3 million signatures, one of the biggest responses the UK has ever seen.
It was all over the national news and Parliament had to respond to it. When a petition gets that much support, it absolutely is noticed.

That’s a bit of an odd thing to say, Swiftfox, especially since the recent example of the BritCard proposal being dropped after a petition gained nearly 3 million signatures shows that petitions can have an impact.
Also, official UK Parliament petitions that reach 100,000 signatures are usually considered for debate, so they can be a useful way for the public to raise issues.
Surely it’s better to sign one and try to make a difference rather than having a defeatist attitude?

Mainly because they deal with total non issues nobody outside of a VERY niche audience knows or cares about.

I agree its a voice of the people since ive been on scope we all supported and encourged each other through proposed welfare reforms id never emailed my mp ever but coming on here gave me confidence to try and make a difference i emailed id say 50 or more all over the pip changes we shared pertitions we motivated each other and i fear whats coming next so information and support is key to try and hear our voice history has shown the power of the people works not silence thats what they want

@Catherine21, the information wasn't visible publicly. The problem only appeared when you were logged into a company using its authentication code, and sometimes it even pulled up a completely different company's details. This had been happening since October and was only fixed last week, and it took a full three day shutdown to sort it out.
Lloyds and RBS recently had similar issues with their apps, where customers logged in and ended up seeing other people's account details.
This is why I have no confidence in a digital ID system, even if it was voluntary. If organisations like Companies House, Lloyds or RBS can mix up information by accident, I don't see how a centralised government database could ever be completely safe. One glitch is all it takes, and if fixing problems take days, imagine being locked out when you urgently need your own information. It would be a hacker's paradise and a tailor‑made nightmare for anyone who volunteers to use it.

Absolutely, it's a security nightmare waiting to happen.
