As the French sometimes say:
Plus ça change, plus c'est le même chose.
Twas ever thus. We should remember that statistic refers to relative poverty. It's unlikely these people are starving.
Income disparity in this country (and all over the world) is now wildly out of hand. Something's gotta give, and nobody wants to.
It's perhaps an unusual perspective, but maybe WW3 will present opportunities for some actual, meaningful change.
But I doubt it. Ironically, human nature is beastly.

You're not really acknowledging Catherine's feelings and you're framing her expression as a problem for others rather than something she’s struggling with.
People should be able to talk about what’s worrying or upsetting them, sometimes that’s exactly what helps rather than bottling it up.
