Can the council help me to get a guarantor to help towards a new house.

    Hi @debs123 and welcome to the forum. I don't think that's something they can provide. It tends to be someone you know well and who trusts you, because it's quite a big responsibility for them to guarantee.

    This isn't correct. Each council's homelessness team can act as guarantor for people facing homelessness, but they'll need homeless duty first.

    There are also professinal guarantor companies, @debs123 if you're looking for properties, ask the agents if they'll accept one of those?

    Thanks for that information @Stellar. I've had a look as it's not something I'm overly familiar with, but would I be right in saying that the councils homelessness team can be a guarantor but only if @debs123 is classed as homeless?

    The professional guarantor services look like they're quite costly so it might not be feasible but it's good to know they exist as I didn't know.
