Flexible working - struggling to find a job
I thought potential employers were not allowed to discriminate yet every time I ask a potential employer about pt hours so that I can manage my chronic pain and fatigue they suddenly find a reason to take my application any further. The government want us working and I want and financially need to work as the debts are piling up (creating yet more stress), yet don’t foster the conditions that would allow some people to return to work. That includes their own departments!

Hello @BAC68 welcome to the Community. I hope you enjoy your time on the forum. Any questions just ask.
Are you applying for full time jobs and asking for part time hours? This could be the reason potential employers are not taking your applications any further.

It is a very naive position to adopt, to imagine any employers actually want 'damaged goods' as employees. They want them fresh, then they can damage them over time…

Hello @BAC68 and a very warm welcome to you.
I really do empathise with you.
I wonder if many employers are more reluctant to offer part time roles now since the changes to National Insurance contributions which has negatively affected them (financially).
The only two thoughts that come to mind is 1. do you need to check whether you are in receipt of the correct benefits to help support yourself (if you are on benefits) and 2. An organisation such as Stepchange can be very helpful to manage debt and the stress which that brings which, I imagine, will be hard on the health conditions you have.
I'm sorry if I am stating the obvious and if it isn't the advice you're seeking.
It may also be worth looking at the 'Access to Work' to see if there's help there but I don't have personal experience with that.
My very best wishes to you. It's very hard when you're trying to improve your situation but it's thwarted. I think 'Scope' has a section on helping to get into work which might be worth exploring. Take care of yourself and good luck too in your search.
PS My experience was that it was somewhat 'easier' to go part time when, as a nurse in 2021, my [NHS] employer would not consider part time working when I joined. They did after 16 months (after sickness absences), but that was only successful for short duration as, by then, the full time working caused irreparable damage to my health. In hindsight, I should only have put my health first. We live and learn 🫠. Very good luck to you.

I've been saying for most of the last 16 years that the Equality Act 2010 was, and IMO still is, a complete waste of time because no government has ever enforced it.

Hi @BAC68 and welcome to the community. I'm sorry you're struggling to find work. It can be so difficult and incredibly frustrating when you're so keen to do it.
Others have given some great information already but I just wanted to our Support to Work service which may be helpful for you
We also have some information on how to get help if you're in debt

There are next to no part time fully remote roles. I have worked full time most of my life but I do need to be fully remote to help me manage my condition as it varies so much. I would love to be in full time work again but its simply not feasible. I pushed myself previously when I was clearly struggling (it was hard to even admit to myself I was to be honest). I just feel locked out of employment and like my brain is wasting away when I still have so much to give. I worked remotely for 4 years very successfully but remote work now seems to be looked upon with disdain rather than a gateway to some people being able to access work again. There are a few about but full time and they simply wont consider anything else - even the apparent disability confident employers. Or they say you can ask for adjustments after probation. Well if I was able to do it for 6 months, I wouldn't then be asking for adjustments. Its as though there is a hole between yes they will make adjustments at interview stage, and yes they will make adjustments if you are already in a role then need the adjustments - but nothing bridging that gap where you need those adjustments from the outset.

It's actually illegal to discriminate but they do anyway because the onus is on the employee/potential employee to PROVE in a Court of Law that they've been discriminated against which is contrary to the Equality Act 2010.
One of my biggest worries if Deform UK (yeh) ever gets in, is their threat to repeal the Equality Act AND the European Convention on Human Rights, fortunately even the far right who vote for them aren't stupid enough to ratify that! Also, they want to make the NHS into an American style insurance based system, which will price 99% of the population OUT of medical treatment that they're currently entitled to for free under the NHS, like I said, if that ever happens, the fools who voted it in would be the first to cry real tears when they need an NHS Doctor or Nurse.

Have you looked on ? You can select just part-time remote jobs.

Your best option is to only apply for part time roles. If an employer advertises a full time role, they will only consider full time employees. Disabiity won't make a difference here.
The only way around this is to ask about job shares, where you share one full time role with someone else. You're more lkely to get somewhere with full time roles that way.
If you want ful time work on part time hours, that dosent exist outside of freelancing and passive income.
