The media haven't been very forthcoming with this news, perhaps politics has something to do with it?

Yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of the first manned space flight, with the 27yo Lieutenant Yuri Gagarin being that man.

Whatever anyone thinks of the land of his birth, his courage is evident.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about that @SoapySoutar, thank you for sharing it. What a shame it isn't more covered by the mainstream media, I think you are right that politics have sadly come into play.

I think politics just might. There are only 2 countries i can think of where the international rules don't seem to apply! 🤔

I have read somewhere that he only had a 50/50 chance of coming back alive!

They really are so brave, the cosmonauts and 'our' astronauts. One of the worst was the Apollo 1 that was just in test mode not even took off. And poor Laika the young Russian street mutt, the scientist involved expressed huge regret for that, they learned nothing from that mission and it was very cruel.

I would like to think I would have taken that risk for the adventure but I'm not sure I would. It is amazing how brave some of these people must be.
