Provisional driving license application, put a X in the wrong box on the form

I will not be having a provisional driving license to have a theory test, practical test or to have a car. I want a provisional driving license because it is a very good form of ID to have with you and it is widely accepted in many areas of society. I posted an application for a provisional driving license yesterday (Thursday) and it was received at the DVLA end today (Friday). I have looked back at the proof in my camera roll showing what my completed form look like and I’ve seen that I put an X in the wrong box to say that I cannot read a number plate from 20 metres and that I don’t meet the legal eye requirements. I obviously misread the question when I was meant to put X in the Yes box. I am so annoyed with myself because I really want a provisional driving license for identification purposes. That’s the trouble with form filling, it is easy to make a mistake, we are only human. I absolutely can read a number plate from 20 metres or anything for that matter for 20 metres, even if I will not be having a provisional driver license to have a car. The form is with DVLA now so I’m just wondering what can I possibly do to rectify this mistake? It was absolutely not my intention to put an X in the incorrect box on that part of the form. Should I contact the DVLA to notify them of the mistake and to say that my eyesight is absolutely fine/I don’t have an eye condition?

I have autism so this has really riled me, I’m annoyed with that mistake even if mistakes do happen. I really want it for identification purposes. It’s one of the best IDs to have with you. You can’t go wrong really with a provisional driving license to prove age, identify or your address.

Hi, call the DVLA explain the situation and take it from there. It is an unfortunate mistake but hopefully it will get sorted. Keep us updated.

I wonder if they will be able to take the Royal Mail tracking reference over the telephone and do something with that, like find the envelope with all the contents that I sent for my application and make a note against my application? I will definitely be calling them tomorrow to explain the mistake on the form.

I couldn’t do the application for a provisional driving license online because I don’t have a UK passport, that’s why I had to do it by post.

I was overthinking about the cheque that I sent with the application because I did not write my name and date on the back of the cheque, and the form for a provisional driving license does say to include both of those details on the back of the cheque. I was given reassurances from DVLA workers, one by phone and one by web chat, that it doesn’t matter so much that I didn’t include those details on the back of the cheque. The cheque that I sent is perfectly fine on the front, it is payable to ‘DVLA, Swansea’ and it is for the full amount for a postal application, £43. I stopped overthinking about the cheque but now I have this stupid bloody error with putting an X in the wrong box to do with eyesight.

Try to take your mind off the situation now as not much you can do at this time of night, I know easier said then done but overthinking will cause you even more anxiety. We all make mistakes so don’t be so hard on yourself. Call them tomorrow and hopefully they will advise you on what to do next. Take care

That’s what Section 3 of the form looks like (collected from Google images). An X should have gone in the Yes box but no, I had to put X in the No box instead. 👎👎👎🙄🙄

I wonder how easy is it to fix an unintentional error done on an application form for a license? Goodness knows.

Hi Chris, you haven't made a mistake!

You have ticked 'Yes with glasses or corrective lenses'

I did make a mistake, that image you see is not my actual form. It’s a picture of somebody else’s form. That image is from Google image. It’s not my form.

I have had a word with DVLA. All the contents of my application will be sent back to me because of the mistake that I did. I can either put my initials by the mistake on the form, put an X in the correct box and include a covering letter explaining the mistake. OR, I can send a brand new application form to them that’s filled out correctly, and include a note / letter just saying that I have sent a new application to them to speed up the process because of a mistake that I did in a previous application form.

I’ll be doing the latter, I’ll be sending a new application form to them, including a note saying with it to say that I’ve sent a new application because of a mistake on a previously sent application.

I just have to wait for my old application form and the other contents to be sent back to me.

I will get my hands on that provisional driving license eventually. In the meantime, while I wait for my old application and the other contents to come back to me, I’m going to collect a brand new form and fill that in and write a note to include with the new form.

I was advised to include a note with the new application that I’ll be sending out to say that I sent a previous mistake with a mistake so I’m just resending a new application to speed the process up.

I won’t be sending the old application form back to them with my initials by the mistake and a covering letter to further explain the mistake. As I have said, they’ll be getting a new application form from me, free of mistakes, and a note included just saying why I sent a new application form to them, obviously because of a previous application form that contained a mistake on it.

Postal applications do take longer so I just have to see how long it to tasks to receive the old application form back from them that contains the error.

I’ll soon have a new form filled out. I just wonder how long it’ll be before I receive the old form back? Yes, as I have stated, postal applications do take longer to process.
