Hi, my name is scare6089!
Hi
First time here I’m looking for advice please 🙏🏻
My daughter is due to turn 18 and leave full time education next month she will be going into full time work instead, I work 16 hours and also have a son he’s 9 years old (I get a disability element for him) my daughter is talking about moving to her bf’s soon,, where will this leave me with my housing benefits element and council tax and would I have to pay a bedroom tax now as I’m in a 3 bedroom house and there would be only 2 of us, if she stays at home I will obviously lose my benefits for her but I’ve been told she would then be classed as a working adult in my home? Any advice would be great and appreciated 🙏🏻

Hi,
If you live in social housing (from a Council or Housing Association) then yes you will likely have to pay bedroom tax after your daughter moves out. That is calculated as 14% of the rent and deducted from your Universal Credit payment.
Council Tax is managed by your local council, the rules vary across the country, so it's difficult to advise on that from a national forum. You are correct that if your daughter leaves full time education at 18 and starts work then you would likely lose the single person discount from your council tax.
