How to claim PIP for someone with little awareness of their disabilities?

I'm beyond frustrated because my husband lost his PIP after his last assessment, in January 2025. We appealed but the tribunal didn't give him enough points for an award. I have been reading their statement of reasons for their decision. They were very thorough. It seems like the biggest issue, and this is no surprise to me, is that my husband is telling them one thing and I'm telling them another. He has cognitive impairment which has been getting progressively worse and he just isn't aware of his limitations. His social worker said to me the other day that if I weren't here, they'd be looking at a care package for him (I did use her assessment as part of the evidence). I've even been struggling to get him a place in a day centre because his needs are so complex.

So my question is, how do I prove that his self-awareness isn't 100%? He completely downplays or forgets things when talking to any healthcare professional or assessor.

Could you claim as their appointee if they're not able to understand PIP?

Hi @strokecarer, As Mr_Shoes_Tied says above, it's well worth looking into whether you can become his appointee and manage his claim on his behalf. There's some information on the Government website here: https://www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits
