1 vote for the UK at Eurovision last night?

Apparently Bulgaria won on 561 votes, Australia came 4th on 267 votes (4 of which came from me)
I know it'll never happen but post Brexit, the UK's entries to Eurovision have been terrible, so we need to drop out IMO, nobody votes for us anyway because the rest of Europe hates us because of Brexit.

Well, it's not about the winning, it's the taking part π
I love Eurovision but I could predict that our entry wasn't going to score highly this year.
It's been proven with Sam Ryder that if we send a good act with a good song, other countries still vote for us. So although there will always be some element of politics to the voting, it's not always that way. We've just got a track record of sending things that aren't quite right over the past few years.
Bulgaria's song wasn't my favourite this year, but it was fun and I can understand why people voted for it. Nice to see them win when they've never won before!

The fact that Israel are even allowed to participate, they can do without my viewing or voting. What a farce.

I was surprised to read that the cost of Eurovision to BBC is only about Β£2,000,000 pa which is only 0.01% of licence fee income !
But if we win - in that event - the "hosting" cost multiplies by 10 times

There's an episode of Father Ted that comes to mind sometimes, if anyone's seen it! I do wonder whether we don't always send our best because we don't want the cost of hosting too often! But maybe that's just making excuses π

And that's the killer, we've not won since 1997.
And before that there was the famous win in 81 for Bucks Fizz, although the skirt ripping scene might've helped with that, they ripped off Cheryl Baker and the other one's skirts during the song, fortunately they'd got stuff on underneath.

We came very close though the year Ukraine won. But I bet we've wiped out the funds now after hosting on their behalf. Maybe in another few years we'll give it a good go again.
That was such an iconic dance @SheffieldMan1976! Just goes to show that staging and choreo alongside some cheekiness can make all the difference!

It wasn't that bad, in more recent times we've had some right stinkers, remember "Flying the Flag" a few years ago? Even the video to it was rubbish.

We would've won that time if Ukraine hadn't, for obvious reasons, got the sympathy vote.

We watch it every year, it is a tradition to see the UK get no points. We excelled last night with a whole point. Its all good fun and not hurting anyone and I still think Cha Cha Cha should have won in 2023 π

I simply meant, you can't really go wrong with pretty girls and euro pop. I appreciate this might not be a very enlightened statement. π€

Even when we use "professionals" like Engelbert Humperdinck, Blue or Bonnie Tyler - we get it wrong - it's the wrong type of music or just the fact that we are the UK !
