New Style ESA

Hi, I’m currently receiving Universal Credit and I’m in the LCWRA group. About 2 weeks ago I applied for New Style ESA, and I’ve now had a message in my UC journal saying I need to attend a telephone appointment to accept commitments.

Does anyone know what these commitments might be if I’m already in LCWRA. And after this appointment, how long does it usually take for them to make a decision on the New Style ESA claim.

Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

The commitment is just the same as Universal Credit - you commit to updating ESA of any changes in future.

As you already have LCWRA with UC, you will be automatically eligible for Support Group of NS ESA. If you haven't worked within the past 2/3 years then you will not be entitled to any ESA payments, but will still get the Class 1 National Insurance Credits.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Any idea how long it usually takes for them to make a decision on the New Style ESA claim after accepting the commitments appointment?

It's usually very soon after, if you are eligible for the payments I would expect the first one within 2-3 weeks.
