Sewing machine for a disabled person with dexterity issues?

As most of y'all know, I'm a cosplayer, and I'd like to do alterations/repairs to some of my costumes.

If I was to aquire a fairly cheap second hand Sewing machine, would I be able to safely use it due to my manual dexterity issues?

    Hi @SheffieldMan1976 that would be a great hobby. Is there anywhere local that you could perhaps have a go and see how you get on first? I've seen some suggestions online about accessible tools and tips which might be helpful, but personally I always think trying something out is the best option.

    Because of dexterity issues I'd look for one that possibly has a soft start … like power tools, they start softly so as not to kick in your hand when turned on. A variable speed option may be better if grip is a problem

    It's been years since I've used a sewing machine, and even before my hands went, threading the needle could be a nightmare. I think the machine would go through the window now

    Don't quote me but I think there's automatic threaders on the market … but if I'm right, they may come at a premium ?

    As Holly says, maybe try before you buy ?

    As for safely … keep your fingers out of the firing line of the needle and you should be golden
