ESA-C + PIP - notifying DWP of pregnancy?

Hi everyone.


I am 25 weeks pregnant and my midwife yesterday gave me a MAT-B1 form but I did say I don’t think I needed it as I’m not able to work - she said I should still send it for my benefits? I have not yet notified the DWP of my pregnancy, mostly because it has been a high risk pregnancy with my illnesses so we were not sure how things were going to go. Do I need to notify them? I’ve been unwell for many years and still need all the help I’ve told them about - I’m in the support group for C based ESA & receive PIP. I will no doubt need more help once the baby arrives, I just wasn’t sure if being pregnant is a ‘change in circumstances’ that I need to notify them of?

    Hi,

    You are right, you do not need to inform Contributions Based ESA or PIP about being pregnant.

    If you were on means tested Universal Credit, or working, then you would have to tell the DWP.
