Benefits for children when 50:50 custody
hi, my son is going to start living with his father 50% of the time. I currently and always have claimed the child benefit and universal credit child element for him. He will be living with myself 50% of the time but his father has asked me to transfer the child benefit over to him so that he is elegible for another bedroom for him. If I do this will the child element of my universal credit be stopped and give to him on his claim? I would say I am the primary carer still as I take him to all doctors/hospital appointments, dentist, I do all school applications, DLA application etc etc. any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Hi Freddie and welcome to Scope 😊

Would this not mean forfeiting the exemption at your own house?
Child Benefit makes you the 'parent with care' even if you share residence equally. You might find it useful should there be court proceedings in the future.
