Weird names for things

The other day I realised that 'walkie talkie' is a hilarious name but is a great description for what they are.

Other names, not so much. Guinea pig - not a pig, not from Guinea.

Some are downright lazy. Fireplace - a place where the fire goes.

Can you think of any other things that are named strangely?

An embarrassment of pandas. Poor pandas!

A conspiracy of lemurs. What are they plotting??

    A shiver of sharks.

@Rachel_Scope … a Murder of Crows is pretty apt though. Laying in bed this morning it summed up very well why it's named that. Then you've got the Blackbirds singing sweetly trying to be heard … got to love the countryside. You get no sleep … but …

@Mary_Scope Freddy roshers is so cute!

Yeah I agree that a murder of crows is very apt @WelshBlue! We have hens and a cockerel in the garden behind our house and they can be quite loud.

Remember when they used to sell Marvel back in the 80s which was powdered Milk? The ad Jingle went "It's Marvelous! Less fat too!", I used to think it said "Nik Nak Choo", well I was only little back then.

This is what I'm looking forward to with my daughter @SheffieldMan1976. Her mispronouncing things! I'm sure we'll end up with lots of new names for things 😂

Has anyone ever really thought about why we call movies 'movies'?

    Ah I didn't know that reference @SheffieldMan1976!

Going back to mispronouncing things when we're little, I found a list of alternative names for things from children!
