Discrimination by Social Services
Hi there, I am currently in a situation where I am putting myself forward to care for my grandchildren. I had my first assessment yesterday and I feel that they are going to use my disability against me. I suffer with M.E. and have some mobility issues, nothing that has stopped me caring for my grandson in the past. I was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and if they have any advice or could signpost me to someone who could help. I have already rung the scope helpline and also EASS and they couldn’t help. Thanks

I'd suggest contacting The ME Association
You might also benefit from talking to a local solicitor.

I am painfully aware the Social would do 2 things, chuff all and nowt, but you should make a formal complaint IMO.

I'm so sorry 😔
I've not been in your situation but know they can’t just rule you out because you're disabled. They’re supposed to look at how you manage day to day and what support you have around you.
https://frg.org.uk/ Family Rights Group UK should be able to help you, I know other people who have used them. I think there's one called Kinship or something too which may be useful.
