solving the housing issue
as well as not allowing second homes or buy to lets I think anyone in social housing that is too big for them should be made to move
my area some families are waiting 10 years or more for a house because little old Margaret wants to keep rattling round in a house thats too big for her because she raised her kids there 50+ years ago. Social housing isnt meant to be permanent and shouldnt have been allowed to be

Hi @oldmanmarple. I think the issue is quite complex and there are multiple factors in people having to wait so long for housing. One is I believe there just aren't enough homes available. It can often be very difficult for older people to move house and they are not at fault for what rules the council apply that has led to them living in a home permanently. I can't imagine what the families have to go through but I think there needs to be a lot of changes made to solve the issue.

one solution that will help is to make it mandatory for all UK residence homeowners to live in the UK for at least six months every year. and must be a named individuals, not a company.
that will force second homeowners/landlords to sell all their excess property, the bulk of which will be bought by live-in landowners and returned to councils as social housing.
there are more homes in the UK than homeless people, which many of these excess homes remaining empty because they're owned by the mega wealthy to legally dodge taxes and not because they want to build a life here. People like "little old Margaret" are a non issue in comparison.

ok but their feelings about it being hard to move are not more important than families being homeless or hugely overcroweded
the claim theres not enough homes available is rubbish and exactly what my solutions would fix. there are over 1 million empty homes in england, and less than 500,000 homeless people, pretty easy fix right there.
theres also a bigger shortage of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes but lots of 1 bed and older people accomodation but many are just unwilling to move, while prattling on that young people are lazy and not community minded
