What do you fear?
I've been laid up since my surgery and have noticed I've become quite jumpy of noises in my house. I never used to be but now I'm listening out for every little creak. I wonder if it's because I know I couldn't react very fast if something were to happen?
Weirdly though, I used to dislike spiders a lot and would ask neighbours to deal with them, but I've come to appreciate them living their spidery-lives in my room.
Do you have fears and have they changed as you've aged?

The main thing I'm terrified of is Snakes… Ever since some idiot brought a massive Python to school once and threatened to put it on me.
I'm also terrified of what will happen to me if/when one or both of my Parents snuff it.

I used to jump at all the different noises in the house but I'm not as worried now. Probably because now I can put it down to my cats! Do you think something happened that triggered you to have this fear? I can allow some spiders in the house but not ones with big bodies and thick legs, they scare me too much.
That sounds awful @SheffieldMan1976, I'm not surprised you're scared of them now. What in particular makes you terrified about when your parents pass away?

A scholar once remarked that one shouldn't fart after 50.🚽 The fear is real, especially far from home!

I already live in a care home, imagine living in a residential proper care home if/when I reach their age?

Terrified of spiders , someone put a big one down my top years ago and I couldn’t get it out , been terrified ever since, all because of one nasty person I live with this fear and panic when I see one . Have to check my clothes , bedding , rooms … it’s hard to live with .

I really want to ask you more about this because it could many things but please don't feel you have to share. I'm just curious what prompted your answer.

I used to be absolutely petrified of spiders. But I've got better with age.
This is a bit morbid, but definitely scared of death and accidents but also not being in a better position in life over the next 10 years or so.

I've been scared of life for decades. The fundamental constant of existence inside a human body. I've just always found it 'too much' for want of a better phrase. I never did understand how other people seem to take basic daily life for granted, eating food, dealing with various orifices, all the constant aches and pains just while sitting still, let alone any sort of illness or injury in addition to that.
In the past I was told it was 'anxiety' and just accepted it. But I never found anyone the same. In fact almost everyone I met with anxiety was scared of dying! They wanted as much as existence as possible. Completely the opposite to me, I've been actively wanting to 'go' since around the ago of 10!
In recent years I've tried to understand what makes me different to everyone else. The only thing I can come up with is an extreme oversensitivity to bodily sensations. I'm not sure whether other people feel the same things and ignore them, or whether they don't even feel them at all. This means that I can't maintain my physical health, and can't have any sort of treatment either.
Obviously the medical world isn't set up to deal with something like this. Their entire job is just about keeping people alive regardless of anything else. I watched two older relatives lose independence and dignity and quality of life for a few weeks/months before they finally left. And now the same thing is happening to me, but I could potentially still have decades of this existence left to endure, which I find absolutely terrifying. The only way I get through any day now is by telling myself I've only got to dispose of another 1000 minutes, then I will 'go' in my sleep tonight and never have to endure any of this again. Of course, that hasn't happened so far, and due to my lack of coping with physical sensations, I can't even initiate 'going' myself.
So I really am trapped in a nightmare, which can only get worse the longer it goes on now. I can't bear people throwing cliches and platitudes at me about 'things can get better' or 'it won't last long' etc. It's every minute of every hour of every day over decades! The absolute best I can hope for now is a more accessible property to practically manage some of the basic daily task abilities that I've lost in recent years, but due to a lack of accessible housing and my physical limitations now, I no longer believe that to be a realistic possibility either. The sooner I 'go', the better it will be for everyone. I'm not saying that in a depressed way, or an attention seeking way, simply from the real world experience that I've gathered over the years.

I'm terrified of what will happen if a certain company ever becomes the next government…. Especially as a disabled/neurodiverse 50 year old who's probably never gonna work.

#1. My mind going back to the dark chasm of despair
#2. Spiders. Nope. no way ever. I go nowhere near them.
#3. My wife. The only person that I'm or have ever been scared of
#4. I'm not scared of dying but am scared for those left behind. I still find it strange I'm worth the grief
@OverlyAnxious … that is so honest and insightful. I won't insult you with platitudes, except to say I hope your mind finds peace … if only for a minute.
And I know how difficult that can be, with the constant buzz in mine

I'd say the only general honest fear I have is hospitals. I'm not scared of dying and would welcome it at any time and preparing myself for it. But the fact that having autism/mental health and hospitals don't mix well, the constant noises, interruptions, social interactions and handling always without a doubt makes me have a meltdown, which in most cases I end up walking out (or sometimes even crawling out in pain, yes I have literally crawled out of hospital crying before being dragged back). My fear is so bad that I neglect my health most of the time because I refuse to go hospital to get checked rather than it being too late and much worst.
That's all even before you put the lack of consent side, and doctors can literally force any treatment they deem fit on me physically or mentally. I can be 100% mentally well but because of my autism and support needs means they can override or veto any decision I make.

Where is my fear?
It's strange, I'm not afraid of spiders. I don't live in Australia!0
