Too knackered to cook? (Men's Health Week)
I seem to spend every evening staring into the kitchen cupboard, hoping that something tasty and quick to prepare will appear and leave zero washing up. As you can imagine, I'm almost always disappointed.
So, what's an easy and nutritious meal (or snack!) you can always reach for when you're either too tired or can't be bothered to cook?

I'll give you two to get us started: hard-boiled eggs and biltong.

Baked beans on toast with a poached egg on top.

What we had tonight
A packet of couscous, mix in some salad (lettuce, tomato, spring onions, carrot, radish) some spicy sweetcorn salsa, some crispy fried onions from a tub, grated cheese and a balsamic glaze โฆ with a few slices of ham
Jobs a good 'un and minimal washing up

microwave meals are good now some are good balance
jacket tattie only takes a few in the microwave
yoghurt and handful of granola thrown in

'Planty' meals, the only ready meals i have ever actually enjoyed, and adding extra ingredients aren't necessary.
If I am really hungry, i add half or one third a portion of rice or pasta. ๐

It's got to be with an egg on top! Since I got introduced, this has blown my mind! I normally have it fried though, because I'm naughty ๐

All good suggestions there @oldmanmarple ๐ What do you have on your tattie? For me I like chilli, or beans and grated cheeseโฆ yum

These are all great.
The egg on top is a brilliant versatile addition to most things.

It's difficult. You are disqualified.

I don't think so @egiste2r. Bit of chopping, or could have the salad pre-prepped. Just a case of whacking it all together ๐

Story of my life. โ
Takes longer for the kettle to boil for the couscous than to shred, grate and chop โฆ onions and salsa out of a tub

You're also disqualified. Because there's a lot of different work involved.๐
Cutting meat or chicken into small pieces and frying in hot oil is quick and easy.
For plant-based foods, you can add beer. Or wine.0 -
You guess wrong sir, they are vegan meals.
I was skeptical at first, but tasting vanquished all doubt.

The microwaved baked potatoes are amazing, they aren't ultra processed either being merely a whole potato with olive oil.
The lack of crispy skin makes me a little sad but they are a lifesaver ๐ฅ

If it involves more than one step it's too much work for me on low energy or bad health days. Even a cheese sandwich is too much if I need to chop the cheese too.
Fruit is out because it involves peeling or it going sad and soft in the fridge
I usually have a carrot as they last ages in the fridge or break off some cheese
pre-cooked meats are a good grab food too

I've had them a few times and totally agree! What do you have with yours?

That's a fair point. It's sometimes easy for me to say that's fairly easy in the grand scheme of cooking but sounds like that's really limiting for you when you're having those days.

Some may disagree with me, but if someone frequently has trouble preparing food, it's best to have a body mass index (BMI) slightly higher than recommended, unless there are strict medical contraindications.
Based on this, you should prepare your meals accordingly. Food should be calorie-dense and balanced, containing animal proteins and essential micronutrients.
Today โ fried eggplant and avocado.
