IV been homeless for many years and have been housed finally but due to no photo identity I'm worried about the interview with universal credit to check my identity please help I will be homeless again if unsuccessful as won't be able to get housing benefit. My letters are limited due to homelessness

    Hi @jonnysgreat and welcome to the community. I'm so glad that you finally have somewhere to live. How does it feel?

    With regards to not having photo ID, there are other ways to prove your identity:

    If you do not have photo ID

    You can use other documents. For example your:

    • birth or marriage certificate
    • tenancy agreement
    • NHS medical card
    • bank statements
    • debit card

    If you do not have any ID, you could show who you are by answering security questions over the phone. You could also get someone else to confirm your identity.

    Hi,

    As long as it's a face to face ID check, you'll generally be fine with just one or two pieces of evidence. I don't remember seeing anyone turned away for not having enough evidence so far.

    You'll need a bank account in order to access UC so that should provide one piece. You can request a copy of your birth certificate if you no longer have the original, though that may not arrive soon enough now. If you're in rented accommodation, you should have a rental agreement and possibly some paperwork for council tax, water or electric bills for example.
