in Start here and say hello!

hi. I’m in the position as one of the other members. My son has autism, adhd, sensory processing disorder and borderline learning disabilities. He is due to leave school on 23/06/2026 and turns 19 on 21/07/ 2026. I work part time term time to work around my son’s school/ college and heavily rely on the ice we receive for his benefits

    Many families struggle financially with the transition from dependant children to non dependant adults within the welfare system.

    He will need to claim UC in his own right, with you as his appointee if needed.

    He can also apply for PIP if he isn't already getting it.

    A local welfare rights organisation can offer help with the whole process.

    Is it possible for you to work full time after your son leaves education?

    He should as an adult with an income (benefits) give you a contribution towards bills.

    There is a website called MoneySavingExpert that has a forum & extensive resources around money saving, including on how to get help with any debts and budgeting advice.
