There are quite a few autistic people here, some of whom have been diagnosed later in life, so I hope they'll say hi soon. We also have a whole section for chatting about autism and neurodiversity. How are you feeling about your diagnosis? Have you felt like you're understanding yourself better now that you know?

I'm a 50 year old who was diagnosed on the 23rd of October 1999 at the age of 23, mostly thanks to a ton of Googling done by my Brother and my Sister in law.
I had an MRI at the Northern General Hospital, they ended up "losing" the results of that so I had to have another one, which confirmed that I am on the ASD Spectrum.

@Rosie_Scope Thank you so much. I am feeling ok about my Diagnosis. All these years I have had Autism and never knew about it. It was only when my I visited my GP and My Niece suggested to my GP that she refer me to Autism program. I was accepted and given a Online consultation. It was all a bit confusing at first but I opened up and discussed everything in my life. Now I enjoy reading the Members Magazine that comes through the post Monthly and I'm part of the National Autistic Society Forums. I'm slowly trying to get an understanding of it all. Aparently it runs in the family as my Mother suffered from some form of Autism as did some of my Uncles and Aunts. I've always felt a bit different to other people but I've muddled through all these years. Even now I still shy away from Large crowds.

I'm 65 and only found out about 3 months ago that I'm on the Spectrum as a Catagory 1.

Glad to hear you're doing okay @Johnboy412000! I know lots of people I've spoken to say it can bring up all sorts of feelings once you've found out, but it often really helps you figure yourself out as you move forward through life ☺️
Could you recognise that there were autistic people in your family before your diagnosis, or was that something you came to realise later after being diagnosed yourself?

No I had no Idea until my Niece mentioned it. She's a trained Counsellor so was able to pick up on it from experiences of working with Clients that showed Autistic traits.

That's more or less how my Sister in law picked up on it for me.

Great to hear about your experience and love that you've got the magazines coming monthly and joined a forum - that'll definitely help you to get a better grounding and understanding. Sounds like a really positive thing having the diagnosis and beginning to put the pieces together so to speak. Looking forward to seeing you around the community!
