Right ear hearing aid keeps coming apart - No appointments at RHH till next year

A staff member rang the Audiology Dept at Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital yesterday when I told them about the problem, apparently she was told there were no appointments available till circa this time next year because our oh so wonderful National Health Service is skint! You what?!

I am painfully aware the NHS is by no means perfect but come on.

I'm sorry in advance @SheffieldMan1976 because I don't know much about the process of getting hearing aids replaced. Did you get your current one from a store? I'm wondering if they might be able to look at it, potentially fix it?

No, I've had NHS hearing aids since 1984 (42 years next month)

A couple of years ago I looked into having a Cochlear Implant op, because after 40 years of problems with hearing aids, I thought it'd be an option, but the Hospital decided I'd function better with 2 hearing aids! So much for that.

Do you know Fury on Gladiators? She's got a CI, she's the first deaf Gladiator.

Thanks for explaining @SheffieldMan1976. Ahh that sounds complicated. Surprised they can't see you earlier than next year though - that's a terrible turn around for a faulty aid! Can they get the ball rolling with a replacement in the meantime or has it got worse for you so you need to see them beforehand?

We need an appointment, the irony is it's not that long (mid May) since they actually fixed it from the last time BOTH aids broke.

Yeah, especially when it's mostly their fault the aid's faulty in the flippin' first place.
