Looking for reliable Broadband ... suggestions ?

Looking for peoples experiences with their Broadband supplier

I'm currently with Sky for fibre, but nearly a week of outage or very sporadic connection and I'm thinking of switching. Mainly because Sky were useless in escalating it to OpenReach … which seems to be sorted today We'll see … i never thought I'd be lost without t'internet, but …

Has anyone got suggestions to who they're using, prices etc

I've currently got full Fibre 300 mbps @ £24 so don't really want a huge increase but would consider it for maybe fibre 500

Any input as to who is better … cheaper … reliable ?

    I've been with BT for the last few years. Most reliable provider I've had. No drop-outs at all so far.

    I would avoid Vodafone at all costs. Had regular drop outs with them, often lasting several days at a time, without any explanation as to why.

    Not sure you'll find cheaper than £24 a month for full fibre. I pay £22 a month for 50MB on a social tariff!

    The only way to get cheaper would be an introductory tariff, but then you keep have to keep changing every year or two to get another cheap rate.

    If you can get it, and have the patience to deal with their African call centres, try Virgin Media.

    I’m with BT home essentials (social tariff) - £22 a month. The engineer who came out to set it up was brilliant and even coupled my phone for me. I’ve found it to be reliable and can happily stream. I don’t know how it would hold up to gaming though as that’s something I don’t do. You can add on a TV package if that’s your thing

    Broadband can be area specific whether a certain company has "oversold" in your area will depends if you have drop outs or not (as you all share the same node). Do some research and see which provider hasn't got as many customers in your area.

    A quick way to check it to go round with your WiFi on and check what routers pop up around your area. Note down which has most of i.e Sky, Virgin Media, Talk Talk, EE etc. You want to choose a good provider which hasn't oversold in your area which is probably the cause of your issue.

    For £26 a month I think you'll have the slightly faster connection than mine. Should be around 67MB download speed. (But nowhere near WelshBlue's 300MB!)

    I pay £24 a month for Full Fibre 150MB/s with Talk Talk. Been with them for years and never had an issue with them. But again check your area to whichever is oversold or not.

    I'm with Vodafone, £20 pcm - social tariff. I work from home (2021) and in all that time I've never had one issue.

    On the social one you have to re-faff about every 12 months otherwise it creeps up (like £22 so no biggie). It's fibre.

    I'd never considered the Social Tariffs … but that is an option. The reason I need quite a high bandwidth is for the times my daughter and her boyfriend come home and they have to work from home. Him especially for meetings etc … and her when Winter comes and she's off the road and on alternative duties, I don't game anymore .. controllers aren't set up for people like me … unless I use my nose and tongue …

    Ironically my wifi is now hitting 200 mbps. But being a man of principle after telling them to stuff their contract when it expires …

    @rubin16 … good point about the outage and over soaking in areas. I'd never considered that

    I'll take a look at TalkTalk and all the other companies quoted. Plusnet (subsiduary of BT) seem to have a good deal on

    I hate change … been with Sky for years and only switched utililities once … was a nightmare for months with my gas & electric and ended up back with British Gas 😂

    @WelshBlue British Gas are a nightmare to deal with, my Dad used to work for them as an Electrical Inspection and Testing Engineer, and when I was in a HA Flat, the HA weren't paying the Bills on time so BG threatened to force their way into my Flat and take goods to the value of what was owed!

    At the time, Dad went barmy and threatened to report the HA to BBC Watchdog and Look Leeds.

    It would've been 20 years next month since I moved in.
