Homeless no help from local council

Hello there this is a hard thing to write I just been made homeless from a marriage break up and I don't have anyone that I can go to my family all stop talking to me 14 years ago and I have no friends see we move to a area thaty at the time my wife wanted to and she put the full name of the family home.in her name and at the time I was ok with this but now I'm in a area I didn't want to really go and I don't know anything as friends here we have 3 kids all going to school here so I want to stay in the area so I can see my kids as I'm disabled and have full mobility needs can't walk far at all and lcwra I talk to the council this morning and they saying that they can't help.me.as.they don't have the place for me as there is a good number of homeless men and women in the high street I'm 38 years old and don't know what to do now the council as tund me away I'm also on a sleep apnea machine as well

Did the council offer no help at all? They were made aware of your needs?

Often, they cannot help people at risk of homeless, but can once you are actually homeless.

Has that now happened for you, how are you managing currently?

Hi @ben2026, so sorry to hear you're in such difficult circumstances. As Kimi has suggested, please give Shelter a call to see if they can offer any further advice.

Have you got anywhere to sleep tonight, or are you facing being on the streets?

Your council is bullshitting you because they don't want to spend money on helping you.

Call them back and insist you need emergency accommodation tonight because you're a vulnerable adult. if you can go in person to the offices, do so.

I would apply for housing associations, cheaper rent but tbh You've not explained your circumstances, for example if your working the council will expect you to figure out a solution

But if you can't afford housing rent, then you are entitled to top ups however it depends on your income salary

Also again if your not working, and you have no where to live say next week, the council has a duty to home you

I would plan for a short term plan, again depends on your finances, can you afford, are you in debt, I would get a a&nb hotel, and it's safe/secure,private and you don't pay bills, just how long your staying there

But then...your not entitled to housing benefit if your staying in a hotel

From my experience I called the council to say I'm homeless, help, etc and no one called me back...but I'm ok now

The thing is council can put you anywhere in an emergency... priority list xx
