Pip extensions

Good morning,


I was wondering if there was any one like me out there who hasn’t had an extension? I find it baffling how they have chosen certain people and not others.

Part of me would love an extension if it was 2-3 years but any less I would sooner just get the review done before all the changes are made in the timms review.

My pip end date is October 27 btw.

    Hi ! Im the same , im under my first review ( started jan) and my pip ends in 9 weeks . People i know have been given 3 year extensions without any knowledge or reason , they only found out online. Personelly id rather have a review than the dreaded 1 year extension . Not nice being in limbo for so long , its a shambles lol !!

    yeah i can’t find a logic of why some people are getting them and some aren’t. The people you know who have had extensions are they on initial awards or have they had reviews in the past?

    In review since Feb, pip ends this sept. I'm in Northern Ireland but I have just be told we are being treated under the same changes as rest of UK. (Though I'd live definitive proof,) After initially being told we weren't. So i do not know where i stand. Every day is piling on the pressure that's already crushing me.

    there goes my theory then, I am on my initial award and not received extension it’s frustrating to say the least but it is what it is

    I was awarded it last august ''3 years'' got a letter yesterday saying it's been extended until 3031

    I've been going through the review process for a few months.

    I thought i might be given an extension...but nope !

    Anyways im glad in a way because it all worked out !

    It's all so stressful.

    i wonder how the :award extensions" are decided ?

    @DAZZWER2000 How's many ppl in general do you know who've had an extension?

    Seems to me most people neither know how it works or understand the criteria for getting the extension. It all seems pretty much up in the air and a bit of a lottery.

    To be honest its mostly what ive read on different forums but no one seems to know the criteria , the 2 people i personelly know havnt got a clue , they just seen it on proof of benefits .

    @DAZZWER2000 Thanks. It's all a facts finding mission i guess.

    Hopefully Things become more clear. I just wish I could find out what's happening as far as my claim goes as I've only until September before my pip ends and this review hanging over me since Feb isn't doing any of my conditions too many favours as I'm sure you can guess. Best of luck.

    Has anyone had an award extended who is on an ongoing award. Son has an ongoing award from 2017 now shows indefinite on gov website but we know he was due to be contacted after May 2027. I would assume his won’t be extended but will be reviewed via AR2 form.

    Try not to feel bad about it. The best way to approach it is you still have the agreed date, and anything else is a bonus.
    For reference I also dont have an extension, so I am speaking from the same position. We will likely never know the criteria, but I think the current end date has an impact as I have not seen any end dates after 2029 get an extension. Mine is early 2029, which is the original date.
    Stress on the local assessment system might also have an impact. As resources are regional based.

    You probably wont, usually with the DWP, once a review process has started, it wont be affected by deferrals, or other review date adjustments as the claimant is already in review. As an example when they decide to defer all LCWRA, anyone who was already referred to the AP, still had to complete the WCA.

    @worried33 So your saying that if your review has started forget about getting the extension,You aren't getting one. Mine started feb this year.. my pip ends in sept. How lucky am I and others who are in the same position. 🙄

    You could of course get one after they give you the new award but I would expect your new award after review to have the new min duration now, so you effectively will get it when they renew it, but they already have a system in place for those in review, an extension is given, if the review is still going when the current award ends.
