A rare solar eclipse will transform the skies above Britain and much of Europe next month.

Millions across the UK are set to see up to 90% of the sun disappear when the rare celestial event takes place on Wednesday, August 12. marking the first total solar eclipse visible from Europe since 1999. The moon will pass directly between the Earth and the sun, plunging parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, Spain and a small corner of Portugal into temporary darkness.

The last Eclipse was 11th August 1999. I remember it well. I was living and working in York at the time and we all downed tools and went out in the carpark to view it. I seem to remember a partial eclipse happening sometime between 2007 and 2016. At the time it all went dull and there was an eerie silence the birds all stopped chirping most went stir crazy and headed for trees etc and there was a strange chill in the air It was like something out of a Sci Fi Fim.

I didn't know about this so thanks for sharing! I saw an eclipse when I was out shopping with my mum in a shopping centre and everyone just stood looking through the windowed roof. It was probably the 1999 one too! Do you believe there's anything supernatural about them?

I've gone down a bit of a rabbithole and found some good information about where to see it https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/space-astronomy/how-see-12-august-2026-partial-solar-eclipse and then I went on the Wikipedia and it includes all eclipses from the year 19 to 2200! Mind. blown.

Not sure if I do or not believe theres's something super natural about them. I suppose it's something that happens every so many years.
