I really like the Trappist beers, I'd be interested to hear what you think of them!
Just be careful as the high ABV can creep up on you!! Some of the higher ones upwards of 10% I almost treat more like a wine than a beer (in terms of how fast I sip it)!!

All of those beers 66Mustang and StarryEyed look awesome! There's a lot that I've not seen before.
So I've just now been drinking the Erdinger Weibbier which is nice, can't remember how the darker one compares to it, with a Chicken Dopiaza curry and poppadoms, the curry is okay but I'm not that keen on the flavour, it's very mild too like the lamb Rogan Josh that I last had, I prefer curries to be hotter.
The glass (which isn't actually glass it's some kind of plastic) is interesting, in that it looks like shattered tempered glass, and if you leave it in the freezer for long enough it stays freezing cold for a very long time, keeping the beer really cold.

@66Mustang fair warning! I posted earlier about my experience with whisky-infused beer that knocked me on my ass due to 11.7 ABV! I had no idea beer could go so high. So I will check in the future before drinking. And, yes, I will definitely share my thoughts on the Trappist beers (and others).
@Ross1975 man that looks yummy! What an awesome idea for your glass. Looks funky too. I look forward to comparing notes soon with your beer.

Actually it wasn't as horrible as I remember. I thought at best I would take one sip and throw it out. But I actually enjoyed about 1/4 of it. It isn't as thick or as bitter as I remember from my teens. Then with the next 1/4, I liked it less with every sip. After the initial flavour bust, it wasn't so exciting, just kind of flat and unappealing. So I threw the 2nd half out. (Is that considered a sacrilegious act by the Brits?? ๐)

StarryEyed, draughts are more smooth than fizzy, I'm not that keen on the flatness of them either, but I still find them fairly enjoyable to drink, I just prefer more fizz.

I mean the taste got flat, not the lack of fizziness. I often order draught when ordering out because less bubbles is easier to handle on my tummy.
I didn't remember the thingie at the bottom of the Guinness can and it really confused me. So I looked it up as to what it is. Very cool! It's used to flatten the beer so it's like draught out of the tap.
Did you know in Canada we spell and say draft beer instead of draught beer? I just learned that. This hobby is very educational! ๐

StarryEyed, I meant the Guinness glass, I never actually noticed the picture of a glass on the mat, but that looks like it's leaning too. ๐
I remember when widgets in cans were a new thing in around 1996 or 1997, it was all over the TV. After finishing a can me and my friend ripped the can open to see this new thing called a widget, it was shaped like a hockey puck, now they're spherical.
Did you know there was a draught lager? It was called Guinness Enigma, it wasn't popular, people found a smooth velvety lager to be completely unnatural and unappealing, so it didn't do well, I'd love to try one though as I like things that are weird and different.

Oh, that's why I don't remember the Guinness widgets. I tried one in the early 80s so they didn't have them.

That Guinness video you posted is using scenes like those painted by the Spanish artist Salvador Dalรญ. It's very awesome!
So I just checked with an English friend and she said Google Translate is wrong. Draft beer is pronounced the same as draught beer.
So I tried the Erdinger tonight and quite like it. It's really light and fresh. I only drank half of it though as 500 ml is too much.

Magners cider, it's one of my favourite ciders, reminds me of Old English cider from the 80's.

Yummy! I love cider too, both with and without alcohol. It's very popular in Ontario as we grow a lot of apples there. I still haven't found one I like here, but have two in my cupboard waiting to be tried. Will keep you posted. ๐

@66Mustang I had this Trappist beer tonight and it blows my socks off! The taste is rich and interesting and the fizziness is just right. It's really unique. It was too high in the alcohol though, even though I drank it right after supper and super slowly. So next time I drink beer that's so high in alcohol I'll either share it or only drink part of it. Thank you so much for the recommendation! I still have two more Trappist beers to try. Yay!
@Ross1975 here is a close-up of the design on the glass. It's a vintage crystal beer glass from 2004 for the Spanish beer company Cruzcampo, for their 100th anniversary (cien aรฑos means 100 years). Impressed? ๐ Here's a close-up:

I've had that St. Bernardus ABT 12 before, can't remember what it was like but I'm sure I liked it. Great artwork on the bottle.
I like the Cruzcampo glass, it has an interesting shape.

In the UK we call some beers "barley wine". That's an oxymoron as you can't make wine from barley, but it refers to the fact it's a beer that is closer to the strength of wine! ๐

Yes, it's a gorgeous glass - my favourite. Remember I said before that I only have four beer glasses (two of which are the same)? Well I've shown them all now, but when clearing out the cupboards for the new Coke glasses, a fifth appeared! Stay tuned! ๐
Barley wine?? ๐ Yeah, definitely not a thirst quencher for the small volume I can drink. And I love the half-litre wheat beer also, but that's too much volume. So when drinking alone, I'll pour out some of high-alcohol and high-volume beers. Such a waste, but the point is to enjoy it, right? I feel like Goldilocks in finding just the right beer.
I've never stocked booze for drinking alone as I've always dreaded it becoming a problem - really almost to the point of a phobia. So this is nice to be letting go of this pent-up fearful energy. Regardless, this fabulous song keeps playing in my head, 'I Drink Alone' by George Thorogood. ๐

This was absolutely amazing!! It was strong but light and almost tangy. I loved it!
Half a beer was perfect in my little crystal juice glass. This was my calculation from digging for info online: I love nerdy calculations ๐
1. Wine is typically around 12% ABV.
2. Standard wine serving is around 150 mL.
3. Beer is typically around 5%. ABV.
4. Standard bottle of beer is about 330 mL
5. So a generous helping with a comfortable amount of alcohol of a bottle of beer that is 10% ABV is about half the bottle, which is about the size of a serving of wine, such as barley wine ๐.
A little culture on that size.... Here in Spain, they serve that size in a lot of restaurants and bars. It's called "una caรฑa".

I've just had the last of my wheat beers which is a Franziskaner Weissbier. It was very nice, it has a lot of flavour and character.
They've changed the top on it, on the left is how the top used to look and on the right is how it looks now, for some reason they've gone with a plainer look, not sure why, I much prefer the old one. Anyway, that's another top to add to my collection. ๐
