Hi, my name is mark1974! Only given 7 day extension on PIP award, is this right?

Hi all , my pip award is up for renewal on the 15th July 2027 I had my letter for the extension and I only got 7 days it now says 21st July 2027. It dose say on the letter that they will review it again and could get extended again. 7 days makes no sense? Any idea if I should call them or leave it until they get in touch again?

Hi @mark1974, welcome to the community. That does sound a little odd! I haven't seen many people having such short extensions, but that doesn't mean it's not happening. It may be worth a call to the enquiries line just to check it's correct.

Asking shouldn't trigger anything else, so there's not much to lose by just checking in with them and getting some clarity ☺️ Hope you can get some answers soon!

We are seeing more short extensions now than when the extensions first started. I've got 2 weeks myself. One person only got 1 day!

Initially I thought it was an error on the computer system, but it now seems more like a 'quirk' of whatever criteria they're using to determine the extension length. I haven't seen any firm evidence to confirm what that criteria is yet.

You are welcome to phone PIP, but others with short extensions have just been told they're correct, in what seems like they're being fobbed off without any proper explanation.

Yeah because like I've often said, the DWP don't even know/understand their own rules so they can't enforce 'em.
