Hello everyone, I’m Paul.

I’m 54 and currently looking for my next role after more than 20 years working across design, product development, furniture, fixtures and retail environments.

I also live with ataxia, which affects my balance and mobility, but not my ability to contribute, think creatively or deliver work successfully. I’ve joined because the job market has felt particularly difficult recently, especially as an older and disabled candidate, and I’d like to connect with others who may be facing similar challenges.

I’m hoping to share experiences, learn what has helped other people and offer support where I can.

Good to meet you all.

Hi @pabber, welcome to the community!

You definitely won't be alone here with what you've described. I know a lot of other members have found the job market really tough over the last few years. It sounds like you've got some brilliant skills and experience behind you so I hope you're able to find a supportive employer soon.

Scope offer some employment services in case that might be useful to you. They can't help you find specific roles, but they offer help in other areas like confidence, interview skills and talking to employers about disability. There's some information here: Employment support services | Disability charity Scope UK

Hope you'll enjoy being part of the community! There's lots of lovely members about so I'm sure some of them will say hello soon ☺️
