Chrohns or IBS or something else?

My gp has said my calprotectin levels in my stool sample are not normal and need to be repeated.I have been having lower abdominal pain for over a month had a ct scan and a ultrasound a month ago but these didn't show anything.I have had diverticulitis before but the Dr at hospital said it wasnt that this time but I still have the pouches ( im very confused).So does anyone who's been in a simular situation have any idea what this could be?

Perhaps you could ask you GP if they think it would help with a diagnosis.

I have Ulcerative Colitis and having a colonoscopy was one of the tests used in my diagnosis.

Calprotectin is a protein marker that mostly shows whether or not you have inflammation in your intestines(bowels). If it is raised this would suggest you have inflammation and can point towards conditions such as Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis. Raised Calprotectin usually rules out typical IBS.

Usually if this is raised it would normally need to be further investigated with a colonoscopy where they may take some biopsies to be tested for diagnosis.

Hi @Jane315STARX, sorry to hear you've had some worrying symptoms lately. As others have said, it sounds like a good idea to go back to your doctor and ask for some further investigations. Are you seeing a consultant at the moment or just talking with your GP?

I had a colonoscopy about 18 months ago and everything was clear but ive googled ( as we all do) and apparently things can be missed and can also appear after.18 months.I did have polyps which they did biopsies on and were nothing to worry about apparently.

So basically my gp.have lost my second stool sample which was to see if my calprotectin levels were still raised and find out why im experiencing this pain and nausea.I cannot believe it!

Holly im so fed up with everything right now.Ive had my landlord calling me today asking again when they are getting their money.I was in tears explaining that ive already told them as much as I can and ive even made a large payment towards it on my credit card.even though U.C are and have said they are paying it.she made me feel worse and said U.C say things and they dont happen.So I said "what do you want from me? You are making me ill?".This entire situation is really unbelievable.Then I was going over the conversation with the gp.And she didnt offer any help.There was nothing I could take away from that phone call.I told her I was still nauseas,in pain ( obviously) at the very least she could have prescribed something for the nausea.I had to remind her about the results of my stool sample which she then asked did I definitely drop it in???.So ive cancelled the follow up call in a week's time because I actually feel more stressed out knowing that there is no help for my pain.no solution for what ever is now going on and im unsurprised that my father died when they said there was basically nothing wrong
