Which historical event would you want to witness?

You have the opportunity to travel anywhere and anytime and see one historical event as it happens. What would you choose?

I'm fascinated by the Black Death and would be interested to see how it affected the country and how different classes were treated.

    On a personal level, I'd like to go back to Valentine's Day 1991, when my ex at school said to me "Are we gerrin' married then?" and change my response to "Yeah OK then"

    It'd be interesting to see if the kids would've inherited my problems being half mine.

    Also, I would've liked to have done better at driving lessons when I was in my 20s, nearly 30 years later I'd probably be driving at least an Automatic if not a manual.

    It certainly helped working people in the long run, those who were left.

    A shortage of agricultural labour, the backbone of England and Scotland's medieval economy ( Nothing against Wales, I just don't know much about that country), it enabled those who survived, to negotiate more favourable terms of employment.

    If we are talking England, i would have liked to go back to 1381, to better inform poor Wat Tyler and John Ball etc. Their naivety led to terrible repercussions; better advised, and they might have pulled off what the French managed 4 centuries later.

    With regards to Scotland, I should liked to have been able to persuade King Alexander III not to travel in the dark, on a stormy night! His accidental death, and the subsequent power vacuum it created, led to the Wars of Scottish Independence.

    Yes @ChrisR777 it was a great thing for labourers! It's sad that it took a plague to get there though. Can you explain more about the consequences of King Alexander III's death?

    I just had another thought of other events I'd love to see and it would be seeing the pyramids and Stonehenge being built! I'd love to know exactly how they did it and to see what they looked like when they were new.

    Also, as I recall, the "Y2K Bug" back in 1999 wasn't a thing, except a clever ploy by the likes of PC World to get everyone to buy a new Millennium proof PC for Christmas! I stayed up in NYE 1999 to see if my PC actually still worked beyond Midnight, and it did with zero issues.

    I'd like to go back to that night and go to bed pre Midnight without paranoia about some non existant "Bug"

    I'd quite like to go back to Victorian Britain, always been so interested by that era! Or 1920s America!

    Wasn't it more that people were worried about mechanically timed devices (which were a bit more widely used in 1999)?

    What a great question! But impossible to answer with just one?! I'd love to just stand in a field, and then be transported back in time very 50 years to see how the surrounding area changed. If i had to pick one, it would probably be 2026 years ago, and see if Jesus actually walked the Earth, then i'd have proof, i know that's cheating the question a bit, but there are too many actual historical events to just single one out! 😁

    I love the Victorian era too @Mary_Scope and yes I'd also love to see Victoria crowned queen @Amberpearl.

    I agree @Starman, I shouldn't have been too strict and let everyone choose multiple. That is such an amazing idea! How would you choose which field though?

    I wish this was a reality because there are such interesting answers!

    The field would be where i grew up as a kid, it was at the top of our road, through a ginnel, a nice Yorkshire word! it was massive and at the top was a big church and graveyard. At the top of the field you can see for miles around and as i said, would just love to stand there and go back in time and see how it looked in 50 year intervals.
