Pip claim

in PIP, DLA, ADP & AA

Hi I have suffered from rheumatoid arthritis since 1995 I was 22 years old now 53.

I am shortly due to have a shoulder operation & the recovery time is upto 12 months to get back to full health I am left handed & the operation is on my left shoulder I was thinking of applying for pip but not sure if I qualify for it. I have received pip from 1995 untill 2000 when I was at my worst with the illness.when I volunterely came off pip because I was fit to work even though I still suffered with the illness I just need advice whether it is worth me applying thank you .

    Hi,

    PIP has nothing to do with your ability to work. It is perfectly acceptable to claim PIP while working.

    PIP was only introduced in 2013, so you can't have been getting it from 1995 to 2000. I suspect you were previously on DLA which had different criteria.

    This is a list of the PIP descriptors. You need to score at least 8 points in either Daily Living or Mobility for a standard rate award. Or 12 points for Enhanced rate.

    If you are currently working and will be unable to during recovery then you may also consider out of work benefits such as ESA or Universal Credit.
