What's your favourite era for music?

I listen to a lot of different eras myself, but I'd say that 70s music is probably the most common one in my playlists. I feel like there was a lot of creativity around at that time and that made for some really groundbreaking albums.

How about you? Do you tend to listen to lots of different eras, or do you find yourself drawn towards a particular time?

70's for me too, also the early/mid 80's stuff is very evocative too.

I also love reggae, pretty much any era.

I remember going to punk gigs in the late 70's dressed in a black bin liner with holes cut for my head and arms, and a white belt around it (stylish!), and a pair of white boots. Oh, and a big safety pin through each ear. I must have looked a right wally! 😊

Sounds like some fun stuff @SheffieldMan1976. Did you get introduced to the 60s and 70s music by family, or did you discover it by yourself?

I remember listening to 70s music in the car with my dad when I was little and thinking it was absolute rubbish at the time! All I wanted to listen to was Steps and Spice Girls. I've only come around to liking it since I grew up. Still like Steps and Spice Girls too, of course. Nostalgic pop music always has a place in my heart 😄

I am a Xennial and have a solid collection of CD’s that cover a vast genre of music.

I have a decent sound system for when I listen to the radio, mainly Planet Rock & Primordial Radio. If I stream music from my phone I use either the sound system or tv Speaker and SubWoofer.

That's an amazing collection @Rag_793! As you say, really eclectic! I got rid of a lot of CDs back in the day but I've got a CD player in my car so I've been building up a collection again. I find the charity shops are pretty good for picking up cheap CDs.

Status Quo both in 1991 when I was 8 years old and also later when they did the Anniversary of Pictures of Matchstick Men. Up against the stage with Rick Parfitt in front of me all night.

I do @SheffieldMan1976. Dark days indeed 😂 I also bought Gareth Gates' cover of Spirit In The Sky. But in my defense, it was a charity single for Comic Relief.

Wearing a bin bag was also great for not having to wash your clothes after a night dancing at a sweaty gig! Just cut the bin bag dress off with a pair of scissors and drop it in the bin. 😁

Bands I liked from that era: I started uni during the start of punk and two-tone, also early stuff from bands like Dire Straits. Elvis Costello, Blondie, the Stranglers, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Clash, the Specials, early David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, The Pretenders, Madness, Sex Pistols, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Jam, the Police. I also liked earlier 70's bands like the Sweet, Mud, T.Rex, Roxy Music. And of course Queen. It was a fantastic time for music, I think.
