Hi, my name is areason2smile!
I suppose at the moment I am desperately looking for a reason to smile. I have a chronic back condition where my back keeps ‘going’ and a collapsed ankle (which was misdiagnosed for 12 years). On waiting list for op which they say will be a year away. Use crutches to move, a wheelchair to go anywhere. Trying to hold down a (very stressful) job because I’ll need the time off for the op and recovery. Can’t access the office at work as lift’s been broken for months and won’t be fixed until next year. I’m very, very down.

Hi @areason2smile welcome to the Community. I am sorry you are having such a difficult time at the moment. Have you asked to go on any cancellation list they have for your op, so it could be done earlier?
Have a look around and join in when you are ready.
Take care.

I'm really sorry to hear that @areason2smile, that all sounds really hard to cope with. We have a few different hobby and interest chats in our Coffee Lounge if you're looking for some distractions from all you're going through: Coffee lounge
Do you get any support with your mental health at all? It can be so rough dealing with pain and stress on your own.

Hi there, indeed a reason to smile can make a difference, right? Because that sounds like you've got a lot on your plate.
Have you tried mindfulness or meditation? Not as a solution to your pain, but just to sit with it. It is just a suggestion, because it is also about being together as people even when we are alone.
Sometimes it helps for me to just watch what is going on in the garden or listen to the rain. And of course distraction can be helpful, so perhaps it is nice to chat here on the forum about who you are and what you like as hobbies, pets, what your job is like…
I hope you're doing okay today :)
