    I was always more interested in the lives of ordinary people, much less so the aristocracy, whose martial machinations made a hard life even harder for most.

    For many years, my favourite tv programme was 'Time Team', where despite the breathless rushing around of Tony Robinson, I learned to look at history with new eyes. Phil Harding was my favourite archaeologist, and he very much shares the view I expressed about the common people of yesteryear.

    It's a real pity there isn't a Time Team equivalent on the tv nowadays, as much as i enjoy Professor Alice Roberts' programmes, it just isn't the same.

    That's the part of history I found interesting too. My partner is big into learning about wars and the decision makers in charge of them. But I've always found domestic history much more interesting. I love a living history museum where you can move around and experience another era of time.

    Phil was great on Time Team. I was pleased to see him in the news back in June talking about the discovery of a smaller version of Stonehenge. I'm sure you probably already saw it:

    I remember him on 'Time Signs', the 4 part series that was aired in 1991 ( I just read it was filmed in 1988, just before the area became the Roadford Reservoir in Devon, in 1989.

    Our Phil would have been in his late 30s back then.
