Mobility issues

in Start here and say hello!

Hi, I became registered disabled in 2024. I have had to give up work, adapt to a new way of life and am struggling to make new friends. Old friends don’t visit so much now. I would love to make some new friends. I enjoy all things back from the 80’s and 90’s like the sitcoms, music and movies. I love animals and reading. I have one adult daughter who is my carer. I would love to chat to anyone, particularly those with mobility issues, as up until 2024 I was outgoing, working and life was very different.

    It can be difficult to adjust to a new way of life. Perhaps concentrate on what you are able to do now not what you did before.

    Once we are no longer able to do what we did before some "friends" will drop away.

    Have a look around and join in when you are ready.

    What sort of books do you enjoy reading? Do you have a favourite author? We have a Book Club which was set up by a wonderful member as well as book discussion on the community that we use to talk all things reading!

    Hi, thankyou for the kind replies 😊 I like autobiographies, thrillers, mysteries and feel good books. Although I haven’t had chance to read for a couple of weeks as I’ve just had a wet room installed because of my mobility issues.

    I'm with you on the mobility. & the friends..
    Mine is variable, good days & not so good.
    While I've never had a lot of close friends I find it hard to keep the 1 or 2 that I can just meet for a coffee (I actually know no one in my local area that I can count under that category. I have 2 people that call me regularly, but they live in different parts of the country.
    I try to get to some group stuff, seated exercise classes, etc & meet people but I've not yet made that 'click' where you can just meet up and talk about random stuff for a couple of hours.. That's special!

    Have you read any Lisa Jewell @Helenclaire? She's written some good thiller/mystery books! I really enjoy a good autobiography? What's the best one you've read?

    Good to hear your wet room is finished, hopefully you'll be able to enjoy that soon!

    • type @ and then a list of usernames will pop up
    • start typing the username of the person you want to reply to and it will pop up on the list
    • click on their username
    • if it has worked it will turn purple, just like your username has above 😊

    Please do not worry about being rude. Everyone here can see your reply so nobody will think you are being rude.

    @JW77 thankyou for your reply. Until 2024 i was working, life is certainly different now. I have one close friend but she is much older and has her own mobility issues, we text everyday though but its not the same as going out in person. I require a wheelchair outdoors.
