Blue badge - asked to submit video of me walking

This is my first post.
I have several health conditions that affect my mobility, and have had PIP and a blue badge for about 8 years. It took a lot for me to apply for these as I just didn't feel ready to accept that I needed help.
It's come to that time where I need to reapply for both, PIP have said they are 9 months behind so I may not get an answer in time for when it is due to be renewed, they have said they will extend this if it is the case. I had enough mobility points to also get my blue badge through the PIP, if it is extended I need to ask for a letter of entitlement and the blue badge will also be extended.
I always apply for my blue badge separately and have always been granted it with no face to face but this time they want to have a video chat with me but also want me to send in a 1 minute clip of me walking. I am petrified they don't believe me or will deny me a blue badge. It's become my life line and it allows me to live a 'normal(ish)' life, it allows me to work. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, if it is normal or did i not complete my renewal form properly. I always send in lots of supporting information with letters from all of my hospital appointments including letters from my consultants stating why I need a blue badge.
This is really taken it's toll on my anxiety as I am overthinking the situation and I am worried they are going to take my life line away from me.

I have a jaded view of these people as my brothers wife had to do the same, in the end they had to ask the doctor to get involved.
She also had to goto a PIP interview and prove she could not walk.
Be careful how hard you try, you may walk enough today so you can't pass but tomorrow you'll pay for it and won't be able to walk.
Contact you doctor or health professional and ask for their help as they know your limits and may have other insights.

If you qualify automatically with your PIP award - and do check this carefully as it isn't about the number of points but if they have been awarded for specific descriptors- I'd be asking exactly why you have to submit a video.

I see loads of blue badge holders that walk away from their vehicles with apparent ease. I couldn't walk a step getting out of a car. In my opinion, the mickey takers spoil it for the majority of genuine cases.
I suppose councils are tightening up on their screening of potential blue badge holders, and I can't imagine we would all be getting our bank accounts scrutinised, if it weren't for all the fraudsters and cheats.

It is not necessary that you have met scammers - you may see people taking very strong prescription painkillers with a doctor's prescription. And these drugs have very unpleasant side effects, this is not ibuprofen. In the video, they will look like healthy, but this is absolutely not the case.

1 minute walking video.. I do remember a gentleman posted on here that he had a walking assessment in person for his badge. It could be the new way they conduct the assessment.

I suspect that OP doesn't qualify automatically, and instead their local authority discretionary criteria has been the qualification route which in the past didn't require additional evidence, something that has now changed.

I can get out of a car and walk normally and often get the 'look' but only reason I'm in a car is because I'm having a good day. Yesterday was probably a day I screamed in agony and tomorrow may be the day I can't even lift my head off the pillow because I had a good day. I still have an incurable disease despite looking normal. .. Please don't think we are all taking the 'micky'.

The disabled parking isn’t about only being close to the entrance. The spaces are wider to allow safer set downs. There is a danger of setting up a wheelchair in non disabled bays, no dropped access etc..
I guess, when one observes people that get out and push a trolley around by themselves we wonder if they needed it as much as ourselves. That is just human nature.2 -
I didn't accuse any individual of taking the mickey, but how can it be that the majority have 'invisible disabilities' and only come out on 'good days'? I call that naive. It's rare to ever see a fellow wheelie getting out of the car.

I'm in my 30's with an invisible disability.
I don't drive due to being too unwell, I do have a BB for when I'm in a friend's car but mainly get around by walking, buses and taxis.
I tend to use a supermarket shopping trolley (small size) even for a few items, it acts as a walking aid. For me personally it's easier than carrying a basket.
Again for me personally the benefit of having a walking aid in the supermarket outweighs the negative of pushing the weight of the trolley around 😊
And yes you will only see me out in public when I'm having a good day. You don't see the day of rest at home before going out or the few days afterwards spent mostly in bed.
Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it isn't there.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I cannot go out on a 'bad day' for the simple reason I'm having a 'bad day'…. A 'good day' is a day where I don't need to take as many opioid painkillers! So I can only physically get out on a 'good day' with help as I can't drive but I have a blue badge. It remains in my possession and is only used as and when I feel up to asking a family member if they could take me out.
You won't ever see me on a 'bad day' as I am at home, in pain, knowing I'm not going anywhere.

I don't have a Blue Badge but look fine (normal) even when I'm not, like many people here, and I stay indoors when I'm not fine.
My post is about my mother who did use my late father's Blue Badge in MY car under MY insurance 😮
I had lent it to her for a year+ and only found out when I collected it. It wasn't just the shock of having my dad's face next to me - and the act of leaving it for me to see - but the criminality. I was angry and ashamed. There was nothing at all wrong with her….apart from things like this!

We had one on here a number of months ago, who saw nothing wrong with using their disabled child's Motability car to drive to work each day. The excuse was that they were using it to earn the money to support the child, so technically that was ok! By that logic, anyone in employment who has a child, they should be issued a car!

The good days thing is a bit moot because of course people are more likely to go out on good days when they are in less pain/have better mobility, than they are to go out on bad days when they're struggling 😉 I do get your point though

Going back to OP, having to submit a video of you seems to weird to me, like lets be real it could easily be faked if someone wanted to! It feels really off and I know I wouldn't be able to do it, talk about making people feel uncomfortable!!

So I have been in touch with Disabled motoring and they havn't heard of this either, now my anxiety is through the roof. They have suggested getting in touch with BB people and asking why they want this from me, I'm worried I am going to get their back up. Either way I feel like I am preparing to be denied my blue badge in a few weeks time :(

I've had a BB for 12 years - 9 of those on DLA without mobility (I was assessed to start with) but now I get PIP Enhanced mobility and care - so when my BB expires - I expect to automatically be entitled to the badge.
I would find it extremely hard without the badge - not for "free" parking but for space to get my wheelchair out of the car and also double yellow parking - where we can park the car close to the place that we are going to…. never had any issues at all using the badge or getting issued with it.

What have BBs to do with bank accounts ?
They are not dependant on savings or income.

For an automatic Blue Badge, it's not quite as simple as just getting Enhanced PIP Mobility. It also matters where the points were scored.
Either 8+ for the walking descriptor. (Which I suspect you get).
Or 10 points for OPD in the Journey descriptor.
It is possible to get Enhanced PIP from a mix of those two descriptors without being automatically entitled to a Blue Badge.
