Hoarding?!

Anyone in a similar situation?

I've been through quite a of trauma (won't bore you with details) and I'm literally buried in 'stuff'. I'm guessing it's a small pleasure (when I buy stuff) and now I could literally be on the TV as a hoarder. It started small & it's not all rubbish but jeez, now it's beyond the pail. I'm like one of those people I previously felt sorry for and wondered how they lived like that…. I now live like that and feel really ashamed.

However, I do feel like I can't live like this any longer so I guess I'm seeking some support or inspiration.

I should say I think it may be linked to feeling unsafe but that's because the abuser lives so close he monitors my comings & goings (recently re-started the random abuse/shouting at me) and so that's the underlying issue.

Anyhoo, I do have lots of lovely clothes… and I mostly buy second-hand/charity shop so at least in my madness it's mitigated.. a bit!

i collect stuff myself and went through my mugs the other day and got rid of some.

i would go through your clothes and look at them and decide if you are going to wear it and donate the clothes you arn't going to wear or ones that don't look good on you

have a clothes party and let friends have some of your old clothes

i wish you all the best in doing this

I have been through a lot over the last 43 years, but the past six plus years have been the worse. I have always loved reading, my collection probably stands at over a hundred and forty books. I was discussing this with an area coordinator from my local council, that I am going to sit down and rifle through the boxes and finally let go of some of them. I think I probably have around thirteen to fourteen boxes worth of books. I just need to find an organisation to collect and take away the books that I have decided to part with.

Been through similar - pretty much barricaded myself in for over a decade due to feeling unsafe - taken over 3 years to 'tidy up' house and garden.
I started small - clearing a cupboard or even a drawer to begin with was overwhelming. I found the more space I created the easier it became.
Don't give up overall and don't beat yourself in the times of giving up.
Wishing you all the best - You got this!

sounds like you need to go to the council and submit a homeless application due to the abuse, so you can be rehoused. the hoarding works in your favour.
