Can judges make end-of-life decisions?

A friend on mines her son has suffered a brain injury, which left him disabled, but he is still aware and can communicate through his eyes & reacts with his tongue etc. Tye court has ordered his unaliving but stopping hydration & nutrition. Is it right for a judge to determine death?

    That's an incredibly heavy situation, and I can understand why it feels wrong that a judge gets to make that call. Cases like this usually hinge on what doctors say about awareness and suffering, which is where it gets really complicated.
