🍞The Great Toast Debate - Sweet Vs Savoury🍞
Following on from our recent toast discussion and @Carl_Scope’s controversial claim that toast isn't a savoury food, I thought we could have a vote and see what the community consensus is on this bold statement 😄
Where do you stand on the ultimate toast topping spectrum?
Are you Team Savoury or Team Sweet and do you have any toppings that could be seen as a bit rogue? (Mine is Branston pickle!)

For me, it is more about the time of day the toast is consumed. For breakfast - 100% a sweet meal and therefore sweet toast - jams, fruits, peanut butter.
For lunch, dinner, or snack - anything goes, but generally more savoury! Cheeses, chutneys, hummus, things like that.

This makes a lot of sense @Rosie_Scope. What would you have for a midnight toast snack?

Definitely savoury for me, morning noon or night, tomatoes 🍅 on toast, avocado on toast, mushrooms on toast, hummus etc, luckily I don’t have a sweet tooth, maybe twice or three times a year when I need a sweet tooth ‘binge’

Mushrooms on toast is delicious @Dynamisante yum, I could eat that now for breakfast😅 Do you have jam or chocolate spread when you have sweet toast?

Sweet - jam, chocolate spread, honey, biscuit spread etc
Good to see that sweet is winning here. Can't believe we're even having to debate this 😉
I'm willing to accept Rosie's compromise but I've got to ask you @Dynamisante: aren't tomatoes on toast sweet?

Savoury - marmite, avocado, salted butter, hummus etc
I can't believe that sweet is winning! @Carl_Scope how much are you paying them?

Sweet - jam, chocolate spread, honey, biscuit spread etc
I don't need to pay them! We're the silent majority, while you're just in the savoury toast echo chamber, @Rachel_Scope

I went for sweet because I have marmalade toast every morning but I adore buttered toast and tea of an evening too

I was almost 'none of the above'! I just have normal butter or cheese on toast.
The options there make it seem like savoury has to be heavily salted butter with marmite, olives and anchovies to make it as savoury as possible! 😆

How could we forget cheese on toast @OverlyAnxious. That's made me hungry now. Do you put anything on the cheese? I use worcestershire sauce. It just feels wrong without it. The best cheese on toast I ever had was cheddar and halloumi. Absolutely amazing 😍

Nope. Worcestershire sauce has two things I don't like…some flavour and a soft texture. I literally just have two slices of toast with one slice of pre-cut cheese between it! 😬 I know many on here will be horrified by the boringness of that. 😅

We all have our own tastes @OverlyAnxious, so you do you!

Do you have that on the same piece of toast @Jimbo007? A big welcome to the community from me too!

I was in Tesco last night and come across Ginger Preserve.
Has anybody tried it? I've never seen it before! And what is the difference between a jam, a conserve and preserve?😅0
